Place Making

Fundamental to our design approach is to create modern architecture that considers the local identity and historic references of a place. We formulate a site narrative that considers your brief, the local environment, a circular economy, access to local crafts and trades, and the needs of the end users.

Our Approach

Our approach is to develop a robust context analysis to understand the local context, identity and historic references. Our site specific design responses are ‘representative of our time’ but sensitively considering historical character, local forms and materials, wider site views, and access to ensure an architecture integrated into the community of a place. By integrating the brief into the local context we give confidence to stakeholders, and planning authorities. This enables us to provide high quality footprints to provide a positive legacy into the local built environment.

Heritage & Listed Buildings

Our team have worked on a number of heritage architecture projects requiring building conservation, extensions to listed buildings and barn conversions. Our heritage experts have the knowledge and skills required to manage and plan projects involving sensitive listed buildings. By opting for refurbishment and restoration, we significantly reduce our carbon footprint and embrace a greener alternative.

Retrofit

Retrofit offers one of the best opportunities to improve the environment in our towns and cities and reduce the carbon footprint of our current buildings. By improving the performance of a buildings fabric and integrating renewable energy systems we can significantly reduce the carbon emissions of the building sector. Our architects have worked extensively with existing heritage buildings, adapting them for exciting new uses and maximising their potential.

Community & Leisure

Our focus is on creating vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable spaces that bring people together and enhance the quality of life in our communities. Our team is dedicated to transforming these spaces into vibrant hubs of community engagement, cultural activity, and economic vitality.  From a community centre for young people to a garden centre run by a charity, we’ve created community and leisure spaces that gives the community a sense of pride and ownership.

Bobby’s Bournemouth

Refurbishment and Retrofit of Former Debenhams Building into a Thriving Mixed-used Development

Bobby & Co, Bournemouth

Bobby’s is a regeneration project  transforming an old Debenhams department store into a mixed use building, with localism at the heart. With experience led retail on the ground floors local tenants have been curated throughout. The project has reinvented one of Bournemouth’s most iconic town centre buildings. One of the key advantages of re-purposing obsolete retail space and commercial properties is the environmental sustainability it offers. For this project we reduced emissions by:

  • Replaced end of life historic windows with high performing heritage steel windows
  • Insulated the roof to exceed current regulations
  • Replaced plant to incorporate heat recovery
  • Provided new fire escapes to ensure the building is flexible for different user groups
  • Created an external terrace to link the building to the surrounding context
