Bournemouth and Poole College - LRC

Refurbishment of a historic building to create a sophisticated learning resource centre

Awards

Footprint Architects were appointed to design a scheme for the refurbishment and new interior fit-out of the learning resource centre at the Lansdowne campus at Bournemouth and Poole College.

The proposals include opening up the large library space on the second floor by demolishing a mezzanine level, this was a later addition to the Victorian college building. Opening up the space will expose the large arched steel trusses and brick archways. The existing library will be striped bare and interior decorations will be sympathetic to these existing grand architectural features.
The concept is to create an environment to engage all users and show off the existing architecture. The furniture concept for the design is the zoning of the different curriculum areas within the library. These clusters will be divided by wooden and dark carpeted flooring creating a sophisticated feel to the higher educational space. Group and meeting rooms will be divided by glass partitions with atmospheric lighting to future highlight the existing structures.
