The Green Hub is a building that showcases Lush’s commitment to reuse, repurpose, repair and recycle materials from across their business. Footprint Architects were commissioned to assist Lush in designing and delivering the fit out of their new £2.3m centre, enabling the ethical cosmetics brand to find solutions for materials that would otherwise become waste. Our team successfully provided a design, co-ordination and fit-out which supported LUSH with achieving their goal of zero waste.

With six core teams working together at the Green Hub, Lush is creating circular economies, working to close the loop on packaging and water waste, and find solutions to reuse, repurpose, repair and recycle materials from across their business.
Key functions of the new recycling and re-use facility include:
Enable the brand to go from processing 2.5 tonnes of plastics to 20 tonnes of plastic per week in a closed loop, while the DAF water treatment unit will bring Lush’s wastewater treatment process in-house.
Processing 500 tonnes of dirty water each year and preventing the need to transport wastewater off-site.
Lush wanted to upscale and expand their current recycling operations, moving into a new 3700 sq.m premises in Poole, with the vision of one day producing zero waste. The new Green Hub facility has enabled the cosmetics brand to recycle 81% of its UK Manufacturing waste, repair over 700 electrical items and donate more than 107,000 products and lifestyle items to those in need.
Our team has helped design a state of the art workshop facility to create an in-house maintenance team that can repair over 700 items a year across the brand from a canteen kettle to a production mixer. Our expertise in creating spaces centered on engagement were incorporated to develop community spaces and views across the center to foster connections with schools, companies and councils on upcycling education sessions.
Working with LUSH and understanding their needs we were able to design and set-up a donation space which Lush has used to donate over 100,000 items a year to various worthy causes.

The Green Hub will be the first space the brand will be opening to the public on its UK Manufacturing campus, with a schedule of events, workshops and community engagement opportunities designed to allow for environmental focused education and collaboration between local and national businesses, councils, schools and community groups.
